The Basic One through Ten Number System
W Limited strictly to the numbers one through ten with one being the lowest score and ten being the highest. Here are some quick definitions:

When reviewing a movie I like to do so within its own genre. That in itself, is a fun can of worms. There are many movies that easily fall into broadly stroked categories.
Example:
Drama
Romance
Comedy
Horror
Documentary
Some movies manage to combine two of the broad categories.
Example:
Romance Comedy
Many films fall into categories that could be considered derivatives of broad categories.
Example:
Science Fiction
Thriller
Suspense
Fantasy
Others films are labeled by the form of action expressed in the film.
Example:
Kung Fu
War
Blacksploitation
Christmas
Or, by the style in which the movie is produced.
Example:
Animation
Noir
Musical
The fun thing about playing the genre game is that what is perceived as a tightly narrowed category is usually very broad.
Example:
Chick Flick
Guy Flick
W A film, which rates a 10 in the Comedy category, might find it very difficult to rate even a 4 in the Horror category. Good movies provide the viewer with it category almost intuitively. Any film awful enough to gather only a few points is barely worth the effort of trying to categorize as anything other than Sucky.
W Naturally, there are those films which easily cover two categories and make a hybrid like Romance-Comedy, Suspense-Thriller, or SciFi-Fantasy. These films achieve this hybrid state by having strong and equal components of both genres. But things can get confusing when you have something that is a little part of everything, like Earth Girls Are Easy which is equal parts Romance, Comedy, Science-Fiction, Fantasy and Musical.
W What I like to do is mentally typecast a film as I see the average movie viewer might, and rate to that genre. Meanwhile I have fun with preconceptions on the genre of the film when I draw up the strip. I think that is one of the reasons why The Comic Critic is so entertaining.
