Mark Monlux
W This not so humble guy is a native of the Pacific Northwest. Those long rainy days might have contributed a lot to drawing as an indoor activity. Mark grew up in a large happy mob of a family. A family who loved their movies. Whether it was jostling for the best postion on the couch to catch The Creature from the Black Lagoon, or piling into the car to go see John Wayne in The Cowboys, watching movies was always a family event. It is that spirit of communal enjoyment which can be so easily found in The Comic Critic.
A Grand And Glorious Short History of Mark Monlux
by the Artist Himself
Child Prodigy
W I began to draw at a very early age and quickly showed a gift for it. While other kids were drawing stick man I was well on my way to drawing banana fingers and UFOs with giant eyeballs coming off them like antena. I was always entering art shows and winning them. And while local contests were fun, I did not get real excited until I won the National Safety Poster Contest at the modest age of 8. That got me fired up and by my 12th birthday I started my first business of painting murals and selling sculptures.
The College Years
W While I was earning my BA in Graphic Art at Central Washington University I kept myself active. I worked for both the college newspaper and helped start the underground newspaper. While working with a team of student designers was instrumental in electing a 5lb magnet as Student President. Oh, and I also started a church, The Cosmic Church of Universal Uncertainty. And those Born Again Pagan buttons, I was responsible for those too. I tell you, a guy will just snap if every girl he asks out on a date counters by inviting him to Bible Study.
Illustrator Extraordinaré
W I began freelancing immediatly after graduating in 1985. My first freelance project was a poster which was parlied into a series of books, most were for children. In the many years since, I have done nearly every project imaginable. Most of my work centered on advertising and publishing clients. Awards keep coming. My favorite so far is the Award of Execellence from The Society of Technical Communication. Maybe because I was unaware that Microsoft entered my work and the award dinner came as a complete surprise.
Active Guy and Pontificator
